This represents a significant time saving and quality assurance step in smooth muscle cell biology applications. The cells are shipped bacteria and mycoplasm free and avoids the problem of inter-experimental variability due to animal handling and preparation. <br><Br> The SMCs are dissociated from aorta of 150-200g Male Sprague Dawley rats, then cryopreserved/frozen after 2nd passage. The cells are batch-tested and are guaranteed > 99% pure for smooth muscle cells. They are guaranteed for 12 population doublings and display morphologic and growth properties equivalent to freshly prepared cells. Batch quality/viability is assessed in cells that have been cultured for 7 days and then immunostained with ±-smooth muscle actin and VE cadherin (negative control for endothelial cells). <br><Br> The smooth muscle cells come with optimized cell culture protocols and are an excellent model for the study of SMCs in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease including atherosclerosis.
